MESSAGE FROM THE MINISTER OF YOUTH, SPORTS & CULTURE

 

As someone who has been involved with sports for all my life either as an athlete, coach and even now the Minister with responsibility for sports, I can assure you that my appreciation for sports and its athletes is real.  My success in sports however could not be measured without the benchmark set by those of whom we honour today by your induction into the prestigious Sports Hall of Fame.    

 

There is no doubt that much of what we celebrate today would not have been possible without the contributions of our distinguished honorees whom we recognize today.  Their passion, skill and professionalism has guided the footsteps our sports path has followed.  

 

As a country we have so much to celebrate and in our celebration we must recognize those that helped light a fire in today’s generation of athletes.  Your selection for induction into the National Sports Hall of Fame symbolizes our appreciation of what you have contributed for us as a country and will memorialize your story for generations to learn more about you and their sport. 

 

Whether an individual chooses to be a competitive athlete or merely involved for recreation, it is a known fact that sports is and has been the primary unifying activity which has galvanized our nation and we hope that your stories will motivate existing and new athletes to push harder and get involved in this wholesome activity.

 

Therefore, on behalf of my Ministry, and on behalf of the people of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, I offer our collective congratulations and welcome you to this distinguished institution known as the ‘Nationals Sports Hall of Fame’.
